Since we are focusing on California Wine Country this month, what’s better than to talk to my favorite wine experts from Golden Age Wine here in Birmingham to get the scoop on where to go in Napa and Sonoma? Co-Founder Brandon Loper is no stranger to California, having lived in San Francisco where he worked in film. A couple wineries Brandon is excited about right now are Scribe and Reeve. Scribe–already pretty well-known after write-ups in publications such as Travel + Leisure–has a cool hacienda right by the town of Sonoma where fun picnics and wine tastings can be arranged. Reeve, in Healdsburg, is another great spot with very interesting wines and great ambiance.

A couple other California wines Golden Age carries which I adore: Matthiasson and Ridge.

Adventure Travel

Adventure means something different to everybody. For me, it’s pushing myself out of my comfort zone whenever I travel. It could be biking a hundred miles through the hills of California, zip-lining from one mountain to the other in Colorado, dangling my legs out of the side of a helicopter over the ocean in Miami, or even something as simple (yet daunting) as driving the Amalfi Coast. What kind of adventures are your favorites, and which ones are you still longing to do? Reach out as I would love to hear about them!

Last month, we explored taking a road trip from Charleston to Savannah. Backroads, in partnership with Rue Mapp (pictured) and Outdoor Afro, also offers an incredible multi-adventure opportunity exploring the Low Country landscapes once crossed by the Underground Railroad while learning about the path to freedom for thousands of enslaved people in the 19th century. Not only do you get to explore the charming towns of Charleston and Savannah, but you also get to take part in a traditional low country crab boil and learn about the culture of the coastal Gullah communities. Although the trips for 2021 are sold out, hopefully, they will add more next year. Contact me to be in the know for future trips.
